Integral Breath Therapy
Life begins with the breath. Integral Breath Therapy (also known as breathwork) is a body-mind-spirit therapeutic, meditative approach that involves conscious and intentional alteration of our natural breathing patterns. In Integral Breath Therapy, we use what is called conscious connected breathing, with a particular intention in mind. In conscious connected breathing, there is no pause between an inhale and an exhale. This circular breathing opens up our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual insight.
As we breathe in an open and connected way, our bodies release any surface levels of physical tension or stress. As our breathing deepens, our negative psychological patterns begin to unravel. This enables us to examine any old traumas we carry, any limiting assumptions we hold about ourselves, and any distorted patterns of energy that are holding us back, and to let go of those experiences that are no longer beneficial to us.
As we learn to accept this new style of breathing into our lives, we experience life and ourselves through a newfound increase of healing energy, openness of self-expression, and a greater feeling of being connected to ourselves and our surroundings. We are better able to regulate and maintain our sense of centeredness and peace, and we feel more closely aligned with our inner wisdom and potential.
The roots of breathwork are in Eastern practices like yoga and Tai Chi, where the breath is used in conjunction with body movement. Integral Breath Therapy has a wide range of applications, including but not limited to:
